Vests & Cami's

It depends on the weather and the occasion. A short-sleeve crew-neck T-shirt suits warm days and layering, while a long-sleeve cotton top works for cooler weather or the office, and a ribbed turtleneck adds warmth and a smarter finish for winter. If you want one piece to do the most, a long-sleeve cotton top is the most versatile all-year choice.

Cotton and cotton-blend tops are the most practical for everyday wear — they're breathable, soft and easy to wash. Ribbed styles hold their shape and give a neater fit, while plush or knit fabrics add warmth for winter. For hot days and sensitive skin, choose a breathable cotton crew-neck. Check the product label for the exact fabric.

A crew neck has a round, close-fitting collar and suits everyday, casual wear all year. A turtleneck (or mock neck) has a higher collar that covers the neck for extra warmth, making it ideal for cold weather and layering under jackets or pinafores. Choose a crew neck for versatility and a turtleneck for winter warmth.

A basic T-shirt is one of the most versatile pieces you can own. Pair it with jeans or a denim skirt for casual days, tuck it into tailored trousers for a smarter look, or layer it under a cardigan or jacket in cooler weather. Neutral colours like black, white and grey are the easiest to mix and match.

Yes — many styles work for both. Plain long-sleeve tops, turtlenecks and neat crew necks in neutral colours suit a smart-casual workplace, while printed, graphic or relaxed-fit tees lean more casual. If you need pieces for the office and weekends, choose classic colours and simple necklines that dress up or down easily.

Wash cotton tops inside out in cold water and avoid high heat, which can cause shrinking and fading. Wash dark and bright colours separately for the first few washes, and air-dry rather than tumble-drying on high heat to help them keep their shape and colour. Always follow the care label on your specific item.

For winter layering, choose long-sleeve cotton tops, ribbed turtlenecks and mock necks — they sit neatly under jerseys, cardigans and jackets without adding bulk. A fitted long-sleeve base layer keeps you warm and lets you add or remove layers as the day warms up, making it a practical choice for changeable weather.

If you find a style, fit and fabric you like, buying it in two or three colours is a practical way to build an easy everyday wardrobe, especially with versatile basics. Neutral shades like black, white and grey go with almost everything, while one or two colours or prints add variety without much extra cost.
