What is the difference between a steam iron and a dry iron?

A Dry Iron provides heat and pressure only, best for simple, quick pressing and natural fabrics; it is the most basic and cheapest option. A Steam Iron heats water to produce steam, which relaxes fabric fibres, making it easier to remove tough creases in blended or synthetic materials. Choose a dry iron for simplicity and the lowest electricity draw; choose steam for speed and crease removal on a range of fabrics.

Is this appliance electrically safe and guaranteed?

Any vacuum (bagged or bagless) will lose suction if the airflow is blocked; in a bagless model, the main cause is a clogged filter. The canister holds the dirt, but the filter (HEPA or sponge) is what prevents dust from re-entering the air, and it requires regular cleaning (washing/tapping out). Washable filters must be completely dry before putting them back in the unit, or they will harbour mould and damage the motor.

Will this run during load-shedding, or only on mains power?

Most general appliances are mains-only and won't work in an outage, so for load-shedding consider rechargeable, battery or gas alternatives, or plan around the schedule — check whether an item has any backup power option before relying on it. A mains appliance needs electricity. Choose a rechargeable/battery option if you need it during outages.

Will a fan or heater actually cope with our summers and winters?

For real heat, a fan with enough power and adjustable settings moves air better than a tiny one, and for winter a heater sized to the room warms it efficiently — an underpowered appliance for the space just runs constantly. Match the appliance's capacity to your room size. Sizing it to the room is what makes a fan or heater effective.

How do I use a heater safely, especially overnight or around children?

Keep heaters well clear of curtains, bedding and furniture, never cover them, place them where they can't be knocked over, don't leave them running unattended overnight, and keep children and pets away — follow the safety guidance on the heater. A stable base and clear space around it are essential. Never leave a heater running unattended near flammable items.

How much power does it use, and will it raise my bill?

Heating and high-wattage appliances use the most electricity, so running them only when needed and on the right setting manages the cost, and checking the wattage gives a sense of running expense. Heaters especially add up. Use higher-wattage appliances efficiently to keep the bill down.

Can I return a general appliance if it's faulty?
