Shelving

The weight capacity depends heavily on the wall material. A shelf mounted into a solid brick or concrete wall (common in SA) can hold significantly more than one into drywall. Check the product specifications, but typically a small floating shelf can hold 5-8kg if anchored securely with the correct wall plugs (not just the screws provided). When installing into a standard brick wall, always use plastic wall plugs (Fischer plugs) suitable for the screw size.

Yes, corner caddies are ideal for the bathroom as they maximise vertical storage in unused, awkward corner spaces. A bamboo caddy is naturally resistant to moisture, making it a better choice than particle-board shelving for a humid bathroom environment. Ensure bathroom caddies are designed with slatted shelves to allow water to drain and prevent soap residue build-up.

Use the 'Rule of Three,' where items look most visually appealing when grouped in odd numbers, and vary the height and texture of the objects. Leave plenty of empty space (negative space) around the objects so the shelf doesn't look cluttered, allowing each item to stand out. Place a framed photo or a small artwork at the back, and then layer a shorter vase or candle in front of it.

The coat rack should be mounted at a height that allows the average adult to reach the hooks easily, typically around 1.6 to 1.7 metres from the floor. For homes with children, consider installing a second row of lower hooks for their jackets and school bags to promote tidiness. Hang a coat on the rack before drilling to ensure the bottom of the coat doesn't drag on the floor.

Yes, as long as the items are dry goods (spices, canned foods, sealed snacks). They are excellent for increasing storage in narrow kitchen gaps. Caddies with wheels (trolleys) are exceptionally useful as they can be rolled out for use and then neatly tucked back against the wall. Place the heaviest items (like bags of sugar or tins) on the bottom shelf for better stability and balance.

Focus on personal items like framed family photos, small succulent plants, affordable candles, and stacks of colour-matched paperback books. Use small storage boxes or baskets on the lower shelves to hide clutter (remotes, cables, keys) while maintaining a tidy look. Introduce one bright, contrasting colour (e.g., a yellow vase) to an otherwise neutral shelf display to draw the eye.

A Floating Shelf is a single plank that hides the mounting brackets for a seamless look. A Box Shelf is a complete, framed unit (square or rectangle) that mounts to the wall. Box Shelves, like the 'U Display Shelf', offer sides that prevent items from falling off and a more contained display area. Choose a Floating Shelf for a modern, minimalist look and a Box Shelf for a sturdier, more defined display.

For most small shelves, all you need is a pencil, a spirit level (or a measuring tape), a drill, and the correct size drill bit for your wall plugs. Always use a spirit level to mark your holes to prevent the shelf from looking visibly crooked after installation. When drilling into hard brick or concrete walls, start with a slow speed and use a masonry drill bit.

Yes, the angled design is perfect for displaying books, magazines, or records, making the titles easy to read from a distance. Its open design ensures that books are not hidden away and can serve as a central decorative piece in a living room or study nook. Due to the angled design, ensure you use decorative bookends to keep stacks of books upright and prevent them from sliding.

Yes, the Laundry Storage Rack is a standalone, floor-standing unit designed to provide vertical storage for laundry supplies, and it is not intended to be mounted. It is ideal for small laundry rooms or sculleries, keeping detergents and cleaning essentials off the floor and within easy reach. Place a small plastic mat or towel underneath the rack to catch any drips from wet cleaning bottles.
