Most of our rechargeable LED lamps offer a minimum of 4-6 hours of continuous use on their brightest setting, which is enough to cover a single loadshedding block. This can often be extended to 8+ hours by switching to a lower light setting (dimmable feature) for mood lighting or during the night. Charge the lamp fully for at least 8 hours before its first use and re-charge it immediately after loadshedding.

What is the safest way to clean a lamp shade or plastic lamp base?

Always unplug the lamp first. For most plastic or coated metal bases, a simple wipe-down with a damp (not wet), soft microfibre cloth is sufficient. For fabric lamp shades, use a lint roller or the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, as water can cause staining. Never use harsh chemicals or ammonia-based cleaners, as they can discolour or crack the plastic components of the lamp housing.

Are battery-operated fairy lights or LED strip lights safe for use in a child's bedroom?

Yes, battery-operated LED lights are exceptionally safe for use near fabric or in children's rooms because the LED bulbs generate very little to no heat. They should only be used with the correct battery type (as specified) and placed out of reach if the battery compartment is easily accessible. Unlike old lights, modern LED fairy lights will not get hot enough to cause a fire or burn a child's skin.

How can I use a decorative table lamp to brighten a dark corner?

Place the lamp on a small side table or chest in the corner, ensuring the light beam is directed towards a pale wall or reflective surface like a mirror. These are essential for loadshedding survival as they solve two problems with one device; light and emergency communication charging. Look for a high mAh rating (e.g., 2000mAh+) if you intend to use the lamp frequently to charge your phone.

How should I match the size of a table lamp to my side table?

The lamp base and shade should be proportional. Generally, the lamp shade should not overhang the table edge, or be wider than the table top. A good rule is that the lamp's total height should be roughly 1.5 times the height of the surface it is sitting on for balance. The bottom of the lamp shade should be about eye-level when you are seated next to it.

Where is the best place to put my LED emergency light?

Keep one primary light centrally in the living area and a second smaller, charged light near the main bedroom or staircase for safety. Ensure the emergency light is stored in a highly visible, easy-to-reach location, such as on a kitchen counter or near the front door. Always keep emergency lights visible and plugged in/charged so they are ready the moment the power goes out.

Are these lamps safe to leave on, and are they electrically safe?

Use lamps within their rated bulb wattage, keep them away from curtains, bedding and anything flammable, and don't leave a hot lamp unattended for long periods — LED bulbs run much cooler and are safer left on than old-style bulbs. Follow the safety guidance on the lamp. Stay within the wattage and keep lamps clear of flammable items.

What lamp suits reading versus setting a mood?

For reading, a focused desk or task lamp with a brighter bulb aimed at the page works best, while a softer table or floor lamp with a warmer, dimmer glow suits relaxing and ambience. Match the lamp and bulb brightness to the job. Task lamp and bright bulb for reading; softer lamp and warm bulb for mood.
