Character Lunch Boxes

Use a mixture of baking soda and warm water, and scrub the basin with a soft brush to remove soap scum and residue. For stubborn stains, a light spray of an all-purpose cleaner and a 15-minute soak should lift most surface dirt.

Only use containers explicitly labelled "Microwave Safe" (usually indicated by squiggly lines). Never use clear takeaway containers or ice cream tubs in the microwave; they are designed for single use and can melt or leach chemicals. Always vent the container by slightly lifting the lid during microwaving to allow steam to escape.

The primary use is for hand-washing dishes, soaking laundry, or acting as a portable, temporary bin during food prep.It is also essential for safe, deep cleaning of fruits and vegetables or for a foot bath on a tired day.  Always use a dedicated soaking basin; never soak dishes directly in your kitchen sink basin.

Ensure the plastic is rated for food contact and is durable enough to resist damage from sun exposure (UV). Look for thick, high-density plastics for items like large water containers or buckets. Do not leave clear plastic drinkware or containers in direct sunlight for extended periods.

They are perfect for holding sauces, salad dressings, kids' snacks, pills, or small office supplies (pins, paper clips). They are ideal for 'decanting' leftover small portions of food, like a half-tin of tomato paste or a small dessert. Use small containers for single-serve portions of nuts or sweets for healthy snacking.

Plastic inserts are cheap, flexible, and come in many colours/shapes, making them excellent for customising drawers. Metal inserts are more durable and hygienic but are much more expensive and may scratch the inside of a wooden drawer. Choose modular plastic pieces that allow you to customize the layout of a messy drawer.

The plastic can leach harmful chemicals into your food, and the container may warp, melt, or release a strong chemical smell. Discard both the container and the food immediately, as the food may have been contaminated. When in doubt, always transfer the food to a ceramic bowl or plate before microwaving.
