Is the plastic drinkware sold at Pep safe for outdoor parties and pools?

Yes, highly durable plastic or acrylic tumblers are the safest choice for areas where glass breakage is a risk (e.g., near pools, patios). Look for thick, rigid acrylic materials that are designed to look like glass but won't shatter if dropped. Always use non-glass drinkware for braai areas or where children are playing barefoot.

What is the ideal size/volume for an everyday South African water glass/tumbler?

The most common and versatile everyday size is a tumbler of around 300ml to 400ml. This size is large enough for a decent drink but is easy to hold and fits well in the dishwasher rack. A simple 350ml tumbler works for water, juice, soda, and even a casual beer/cider.

What is the best way to serve cold beverages at a party or function?

Use a large, clear jug or beverage dispenser so guests can easily serve themselves and you can monitor the liquid level. Add lots of ice, plus sliced fruit (lemons, cucumbers) or mint to make simple water or juice look refreshing and premium. Always use a jug with a lid or cover to protect drinks from summer flies and dust.

What is the safest way to store drinking glasses to prevent chipping?

Store glasses right-side up (rim down is only for commercial use) to prevent pressure on the most fragile part, the rim. Use shelf liners or foam mats to cushion the glasses and ensure they aren't stored too tightly together. Leave a small gap between each stored glass to prevent friction and chipping when reaching for one.

Is there a difference between a glass pitcher and a plastic jug?

Glass pitchers are aesthetically pleasing, non-porous, and perfect for table display, but they are heavy and fragile. Plastic jugs are lightweight, very durable, and ideal for outdoor/kids' use, but they can sometimes retain smells or stains. Use a glass pitcher for an elegant table setting and opt for a plastic jug for outdoor and everyday juice storage.

What is the purpose of a highball glass?

A highball is a tall, narrow glass primarily used for serving mixed drinks (like a G&T or rum and coke) and soft drinks with lots of ice. Its height and narrow opening help to preserve the carbonation and concentrate the aroma of the drink. Any mixed drink with a ratio of one part spirit to two or more parts mixer should go in a highball.

Can I stack tumblers and glasses to save cupboard space?

Only stack glasses if they are specifically designed to be stackable (usually indicated by a ridge near the bottom). Non-stackable glasses can get jammed together (vacuum lock) or cause the rims to chip when separated. If two glasses separate easily with no sticking, they can be stacked up to a maximum of two high.

How can I ensure the plastic jug is safe to use with hot water?

Check the product label for a clear "Dishwasher Safe (Top Rack)" or "Hot Liquid Safe" indication. Standard thin plastics should not be used for boiling liquids, but thick, specialized PP or insulated plastics can handle warmth. Let boiling water cool for a few minutes before pouring it into any standard plastic container or jug.
