Women's Heels

Block heels and lower heel heights are the most comfortable for long wear, as they spread your weight and give more stability than thin stilettos. Look for a secure fit with a strap or slingback, and a heel height you can walk in confidently. For events on your feet all day, a block heel is the practical choice.

A block heel has a wide, sturdy heel for stability and comfort; a slingback has a strap around the back of the heel to hold the shoe securely; and a mule is backless and easy to slip on. These features can combine — choose a block heel for comfort, a slingback for security, or a mule for easy wear.

Heels should hold your foot securely without pinching, with your toes not jammed at the front and your heel not slipping out. If you're between sizes, try your usual size first, as too-big heels cause slipping and blisters. A strap or slingback helps keep the shoe on and improves the fit for many people.

For a wedding or special occasion, a block heel or slingback in a classic colour like black or nude offers comfort you can wear all day and night, while still looking smart. Pointed slingbacks look elegant with dresses. Choose a heel height you can walk and dance in comfortably for an event with lots of standing.

Choose a block heel or lower height for stability, break new heels in at home before wearing them out, and consider gel pads or inserts to cushion the ball of the foot. Styles with straps or slingbacks reduce slipping. Picking the right size and a supportive heel shape makes the biggest difference to comfort.

Block heels are versatile — wear them with dresses and skirts for a smart look, or with tailored trousers and jeans to dress up a casual outfit. Nude heels lengthen the leg and suit most colours, while black is a classic all-rounder. Their stability makes them easy to wear for both work and evenings.

Store heels in a dry place, wipe them clean after wear, and avoid wearing them in heavy rain, which can damage some materials. Adding stick-on heel tips can protect the heel from wear. Rotating between pairs rather than wearing the same heels daily also helps them last longer and keep their shape.
