Women's Socks

Match the sock to the shoe: ankle socks suit trainers and casual shoes, secret (no-show) socks are hidden in pumps and loafers, and crew socks give more coverage with boots and for warmth. Plush and fuzzy socks are cosy for home. Think about which shoes you wear most and choose the length to match.

Ankle socks sit at or just above the ankle for everyday casual wear; crew socks rise higher up the calf for more coverage and warmth; and secret (no-show) socks are cut low to stay hidden inside shoes like pumps and loafers. Choose based on how much coverage you want and the shoes you'll wear.

Multipacks are a practical, cost-effective way to buy everyday socks, giving you several pairs at once so you always have clean ones and can replace lost singles easily. They usually work out cheaper per pair than singles. For everyday basics in black or patterns, a multipack is the sensible, economical choice.

Thicker crew, plush and fuzzy socks are warmest for winter, trapping heat around the feet and ankles — ideal at home or with boots. Wearing warm socks with slippers keeps feet cosy in a cold house. For very cold days, choose a thicker knit or plush pair rather than thin ankle or secret socks.

Secret or no-show socks are designed to stay hidden below the shoeline, so they don't show when you wear pumps, loafers or low-cut flats while still protecting your feet. Look for a low-cut style with a grip heel to stop them slipping down. They're the practical choice for a bare-look with flats.

Wash socks in a laundry bag to keep pairs together and reduce losing singles, and wash in cool water to protect the elastic. Avoid very high tumble-dryer heat, which can shrink them and wear out the stretch. Buying multipacks in the same style also makes it easy to re-pair odd socks.

Cotton-blend socks are breathable and best for everyday wear inside shoes, helping keep feet comfortable and dry. Plush and fuzzy socks are thicker and cosier, best for warmth at home rather than inside fitted shoes. Choose cotton for daily wear with shoes and plush for lounging and keeping warm indoors.

For hygiene reasons, socks usually can't be returned once opened or worn, so check the size band on the pack before buying — see PEP's current returns policy for the exact conditions in-store or online. If a multipack is sealed and unopened, ask about the returns terms that apply to it.
