Women's Knitwear

A cardigan buttons up the front, so it's easy to layer and adjust for warmth. A pullover or jersey goes over your head for cosy, all-over warmth with fewer gaps. Choose a cardigan if you want a versatile layer you can open and close through the day, or a pullover for maximum warmth on cold days.

Thicker, cable-knit and closely knitted pieces trap more warmth than fine or open knits, making them best for cold winter days. A crew-neck or mock-neck pullover covers more and keeps heat in, while an open cardigan is better for milder days or indoor layering. For very cold weather, layer knitwear over a long-sleeve top.

Yes. A neat button-up cardigan or a plain crew-neck sweater in a neutral colour suits smart-casual workplaces, while chunky or detailed knits lean more casual and cosy. Choosing classic colours like black, cream or grey makes a single piece work for the office, weekends and evenings, which is practical if you're building a versatile wardrobe.

If you plan to wear a jersey or cardigan over shirts and long-sleeve tops, sizing up gives room to layer comfortably. For a closer, neater fit worn on its own, stick to your usual size. Ribbed and stretchier knits are more forgiving, while structured cable knits have a more defined fit.

A long cardigan layers beautifully over a fitted top with jeans, leggings or a midi skirt, adding warmth and a smart finish. Belt it for shape, or leave it open for a relaxed look. Neutral colours are easiest to style, letting the cardigan work with most of your existing outfits through autumn and winter.

Wash knitwear gently in cold water, ideally turned inside out, and avoid wringing it. Dry knitwear flat rather than hanging, which can stretch it out of shape, and keep it away from high heat that can shrink or felt the fibres. Always follow the care label, as some knits need hand-washing.

Most everyday knitwear can pill (form small bobbles) with friction over time. To reduce it, wash gently inside out, avoid rubbing against rough bags or seatbelts, and use a fabric shaver to remove bobbles and keep pieces looking fresh. Choosing tighter knits over very soft, loose ones can also help reduce pilling.

Lighter knits, fine-gauge cardigans and sleeveless knit tops work well into spring and cooler summer evenings, while chunky cable knits are best for cold winter days. A button-up cardigan is a year-round layer you can throw on when the temperature drops, making it one of the most practical knitwear pieces to own.

Yes, PEP accepts returns and exchanges in line with its current returns policy, so you can bring a jersey or cardigan back if it doesn't fit or suit you — check the latest time frame and conditions online or in-store. Keep your proof of purchase and, where possible, the tags attached until you decide.
