Furniture

Focus on furniture made from engineered wood (like MDF or particle board) with a durable laminate finish, which offers great strength at a lower cost. Look for key structural elements, such as metal legs, metal drawer runners, and reinforced backboards for better stability and longevity. Furniture that sits slightly off the floor (on plastic or metal feet) is less likely to absorb moisture from cleaning and last longer.

Our furniture is designed for straightforward, at-home assembly (flatpack) and comes with all the necessary hardware and clear, step-by-step instructions. Only a basic Phillips screwdriver and sometimes a hammer are required. Avoid over-tightening screws, especially in engineered wood pieces. For larger items (like a wardrobe), always have a second person assist you to ensure stability and alignment during the build.

Prioritise multi-functional pieces like folding tables, storage ottomans, or narrow shelving units that use vertical space. Look for neutral colours (White, Grey, Natural Wood) and simple designs, as these make a small living area appear less cluttered and larger. Choose tables and chairs that can be easily folded flat and stored in a corner when not in use.

Stick to a maximum of two dominant finishes in a single room (e.g., white laminate and black metal) to maintain a cohesive, designer look. Use accessories like placemats, throws, and scatter cushions to introduce colour and pattern, which are much cheaper to replace than the furniture itself. Use one common colour (e.g., grey) in both your old and new furniture accessories to visually tie the pieces together.

Yes, the instructions rely heavily on visual diagrams (pictorial step-by-step guides) rather than long, confusing text, making them simple to follow. Before starting, lay out all the parts and check them against the item list to ensure everything is present before beginning the assembly.  Group similar hardware (screws, dowels, cams) into separate piles to save time searching for parts during the build.

Furniture made from plastic resin, rattan-look plastic, or treated metal is best for handling the harsh South African sun and unexpected rain. Always ensure outdoor cushions or chair pads can be easily wiped clean or stored away when not in use to prevent mildew. During intense midday sun, place plastic furniture under a roof or cover it, as UV rays can cause cracking and fading over time.

Absolutely. This contrasting mix (industrial meets natural) is a highly popular, modern look that adds depth and texture to any space. Use black metal shelves for storage and a light wooden top on a side table to balance the heavy and light elements in the room. If you use a black metal piece, introduce a lighter item (e.g., a white throw or a pale rug) nearby to prevent the room from feeling too dark.
