What is the difference between a swaddle and a sleep sack?

A swaddle is a tight wrap used for newborns to suppress the startle reflex, while a sleep sack is a wearable blanket that leaves the arms free. You must transition your baby to a sleep sack as soon as they start trying to roll over for safety.

Do I need a waterproof mattress protector for the cot?

Yes, a waterproof protector is essential for shielding the mattress from diaper leaks and spit-up. Without one, moisture will seep into the foam and cause mold growth, so buy two protectors to ensure you always have a clean backup ready.

Do I need a nightlight in the nursery?

Yes, a dim nightlight allows you to safely navigate the nursery for midnight feedings without using bright overhead lights. Look for a nightlight with a warm amber or red glow, as bright white or blue lights can disrupt your baby's sleep cycle.

How often should I wash my baby's blankets and swaddles?

You should generally wash baby blankets and swaddles once a week to remove dust and drool. Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent to clean them, and always wash bedding immediately if it gets soiled by a diaper leak or spit-up.
