PEP PLANS FOR GROWTH

20 November 2007

With more than 1,400 clothing stores in nine countries, PEP is the biggest single brand store network in Southern Africa.  And PEP is growing.  To cater for its planned growth, PEP is doubling its warehouse space in both the Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal and is trebling its Gauteng distribution operation.

Using the latest available technology, two new distribution centres (DCs) in Durban and Johannesburg have been designed as green field operations.  The Durban warehouse – covering 64,000 square metres - is believed to be one of the five largest single-roof distribution facilities in Africa.  The 40,000 square metre DC in Johannesburg was opened in October 2007 and the Kuils River (Cape Town) warehouse will be expanded to double its size within 18 months.
PEP's director of planning and distribution, Corné Klem, explains: "We have experienced excellent sales growth over the last four years and we are positive about the future.  We believe we can reduce stock and improve service levels to our stores if we buffer more stock in our warehouses.”
Over the next 12 months, the trucks leaving these DCs to deliver stock to PEP’s stores will cover enough mileage to circumnavigate the globe 280 times.
