MANUFACTURER MAKES GOOD

04 May 2007

NEWS RELEASE
PEP Clothing was named Manufacturer of the Year at this year’s Fashion Awards.  The award was presented by Minister Trevor Manuel and Claire Mawisa on behalf of the SA Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU).  The award is made annually to the clothing, textile or footwear manufacturer with the best strategy for sustaining local jobs and fair labour practices.

The Fashion Awards were made during a gala evening at The Cape Town Fashion Festival, South Africa’s biggest individual sector promotion of local products.  The Festival forms part of SACTWU’s programme to promote and develop the local fashion manufacturing industry.

Pep Clothing – or Pepclo as it is usually called – is the manufacturing arm of Pep and is one of the largest clothing manufacturing companies in South Africa, employing 2,134employees at its Parow Industria factory.

General manager of Pepclo, Marthie Kemp - van der Werf is absolutely delighted about winning the award and wants to share in celebrating the fact but says:  “We can’t do this until at least next week because it’s rather difficult to throw an impromptu party for more than two thousand people!”
