HOW WE OPERATE

This year, PEP will send over 400 million items to over 1400 stores in Southern Africa.  Our stores will conduct over 200 million customer transactions. Our trucks will drive the equivalent of 225 times around the earth.

PEP is driven by driving costs as low as possible to give our customers the best prices.  To achieve this, we operate on a cash basis only, we keep our margins to the absolute minimum and we maintain a low cost culture throughout the entire company.

As a result, PEP is at the forefront of logistical expertise and regularly wins acclaim for its achievements in productivity, merchandise management systems, logistics and distribution. PEP is also financially very healthy, has no debt and yields the third highest return on operating assets of any retailer in South Africa.

By collaborating with our suppliers – we have over 450 of them – and by investing in planning, merchandise and the supply chain, PEP is placing even greater emphasis on integrated systems.  In turn, this helps to shorten cycle times and allows us to respond even quicker to our customers’ changing needs while keeping the cost of the merchandise as low as possible.

PEP’s buyers source merchandise from both local and international markets. They keep PEP in tune with what customers want with a wide range of good quality, exciting merchandise including clothing and footwear for the whole family, homeware, schoolware, health & beauty products, catalogue goods, cellular and insurance products.
