ABOUT PEP

CORPORATE SOCIAL INVESTMENT

At PEP, we believe that by keeping our costs down so that more customers may have access to affordable, good quality merchandise is, in itself, social responsibility. For example, we reduce the margins on our schoolwear so that our customers may benefit from the saving.

As part of its promise of more, PEP has significantly increased its commitment to corporate social investment (CSI), so that it may give back to the communities it serves.

PEP’s flagship CSI project focuses on education and on keeping children at school.  In February 2008, four Student Prince Academies were opened – two in Gauteng and two in the Western Cape.  These learning centres offer a safe, comfortable and appealing environment for Grade 4 children.  The children are given extra support and tutoring in the building blocks of education – literacy, numeracy and lifeskills – as well as tutored assistance with their homework.

Each PEP region has its own CSI budget in order that support may be given at a local level - for education and HIV/AIDS projects, for community development and disaster recovery.

PEP has adopted three primary schools close to its Head Office in Parow, Cape Town. They are Tygersig, Uitsig and CL Wilmot. PEP donates both employees’ time and financial assistance to help the children at these schools to develop not only their skills but also their dignity and self-esteem.

PEP is giving millions of Rands in prizes to SABC viewers and to children’s charities by sponsoring WiniKhaya – the feature that is broadcast after Generations on SABC1 every day.  One winner per month wins R500 000 to buy their dream house and every day on the programme PEP also gives away cash, PEP vouchers and spot prizes.  WiniKhaya is watched by around six million viewers every day and is a fundraising vehicle for the South African Children’s Charity Trust (SACCT) and four other SABC-nominated registered children’s charities.
